Long Term Plan

Written 10 April 2020, 09:31

Today, Dynamo Groby would like to announce the bare outlines of our current long term plan, to give our supporters a better grasp on the strategy behind here and now club decisions.

We at Dynamo realise that we could be perceived as a selling club, with little to no ambition. However, whilst that may outwardly look to be the case, work is going on behind the scenes to ensure that we are making forward progress. In this statement, we'll look to outline the plan, and explain how some decisions made in the here and now are working towards those long term aims.

LEAGUE POSITION AND AIMS

At the moment, we accept that we do not currently have the resources to make a sustained and repeatable attempt at promotion to the Premier Division, nor challenge for the top cup honours. Whilst we do have a positive and workable balance of credits, the teams we would face against mostly have far more reserves to be able to compete for longer. At best, we could mount a glory charge that might last out a few seasons, but would then quickly run out of credits to back that initial attempt up. The club has a long term plan to build up some reserves to be able to maintain a charge at the top division, and have a real go at the cup competitions. At this moment in time, the most sensible thing to do is to keep the club competing at an acceptable and sustainable level, to continue to be stable and build up the reserves to make that push for the next level later on.

STRATEGY

This means that as a club, we must accept that our talented young players have a price at which they can be bought. Recently we have turned down numerous offers on some of our superb young Finnish talent, and we will continue to do so, but where an offer that is too good to refuse comes in, the decision has to be for the club and the long term aim, take the credits to the balance and move on. So far, we're holding our own in holding onto our talents.

Our strategy remains the same as it ever was:
*To find and develop talented young Finns.
*To promote our young talented players into the First Team.
*As young players are promoted to the first team, the seniors they replace are sold to provide funds to bring in new young talents, and profit for the credit balance.

This strategy will keep our club competing at a semi-high level. We expect to dip as the youths replace the seniors, then rise again, all the time raising our reserves of credits for such a time we feel we have the ability and momentum to make a real go at competing at the highest level. It might be slow, it might not be exciting, but it will ensure that our supporters can follow us at a reasonable level, long into the future.

THE FUTURE

The biggest and most difficult decision we face as a club, with regards to our long term aims, is that of timing. To make sure we get it right, to make a real go at winning silverware and competing in the Premier Division. We must not go too soon, and leave ourselves short of credits to bring in the quality of player we require. Nor must we forget that reserves will be needed to continue to compete at the highest level, or at least assure the club of a return to nothing lower than the position we occupy at the moment of being a competitive Division 2/3 side.
We also have to decide location. Do we remain in the tough English league, or make a switch in an attempt to steal a top division title in what may be an easier league. Realistically, whichever league we choose, a top division title win will be difficult.
One thing is definitely certain: We will continue to do it, the Dynamo way. We will not be changing our identity to chase the glory. We will do it as Dynamo or not at all.
