To sell or not to sell, that is the question

Written 9 April 2020, 14:21

With recent upgrades to the training facilities, the Diamonds have seen several talented players come through the youth academy ranks over the last few seasons. So far, the policy has been to sell these young players at a profit, and let them achieve their full potential elsewhere. However, some fans have voiced that they would like to see homegrown talent in the senior squad. We asked the question: is this feasible? Or just a romantic's dream?

We all remember the young talents that have left the club. Ingorokva, the incredible Vlasi Oniani, and more recently Zezva Megreladze and Paata Daushvili. Now 2 Chinese brothers, Si and San Gong, are also making big waves on the academy's training ground. Will they stay? We asked the manager Lord Radz for his take.

Lord Radz: It is true that the young Chinese boys have a lot of potential. We have already had a lot of interest in Si from several different clubs, and a couple of the Georgian lads are also doing very well at training. It is difficult to say what is best for the club; I would like to see homegrown talent in the main team myself, but at the same time, we are not quite there with our facilities to offer world class training. I would say we will have to still consider selling our talented youngsters, but only at the right price. We are not shy about rejecting offers which do not match the true value of our players

It remains to be seen whether Si Gong and San Gong will stay or go. However, the clear message from Lord Radz is that the club will expect more than usual from the offers that come in.

In the meantime, let's come down to the youth team stadium and give them top class support. Who knows, maybe they will decide to stay just for the fans!

Up the Diamonds!
