Reds stun Drøn United in FA Cup Round 2

Written 9 April 2019, 13:44

Crawley Town thumped Division 2 Side Drøn United 4-0 at Broadfield Stadium in a game which saw a red card, a penalty and a hat trick.

The game started brilliantly for Crawley, and in the 10th minute, Nelson Cartaxo was brought down by Pandiin Norov in the penalty area, and Crawley got a penalty. Norov was also sent off for United, but it was up to Humberto Pulido to save the penalty for United and spare Norov’s blushes. However, Crawley striker Severin Hesseldal made no mistake from the spot, putting away the penalty and celebrating in front of the 180 travelling United fans.
In the 28th minute, Crawley striker Giorgio Marchisio found himself 10 yards out and with just the keeper to beat, but the Italian could only hit it straight into the grateful arms of Pulido. However, Pulido played it short and one pass later the ball fell to Hesseldal and he slotted it into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Crawley fans went into ruptures, and a pyro from the south Stand was thrown onto the pitch.
The second half got underway, but the first big opportunity of the half came 20 minutes in, when Hesseldal went into the box and squared it to Giorgio Marchisio, who made no mistake this time, and slotted it into the bottom right corner. He jumped into the south stand and the Town Ultras hugged him and celebrated. ‘Que Sera’ rang around the ground, as Division 5 Crawley Town were beating Divison 2 side Drøn United 3-0!
Drøn’s biggest chance of the game came 75 minutes in, but the striker blasted his effort wide. Another massive chance for them came 81 minutes in, when Shasura Galperin was 12 yards out on the left hand side of the box and unmarked, but Crawley keeper Mancio Cuneo Vidal flew towards the bottom left corner and made an unbelievable save, keeping the ball out after being on the other side of the goal.
United’s misery was complete one minute into injury time, when Hesseldal completed his hat trick, hitting the ball into the bottom left corner to seal the biggest competitive win in the Reds’ history.
Most fans agree that it tops the FA Cup Win last season, when they beat Divison 3 side Durban Poison 1-0, when Amancio Conceicao scored to give Crawley a great giant killing.

Joseph Sharp sauf after the game, “Today is a great day for this football club. I told my players before the game to work hard for each other, and they did that. We knew it was going to be tough today. Dennis has put a decent side together, and despite their poor start to the season, we knew they had threats, but luckily, we exploited their weaknesses and won the game.”
