The assistant manager dies to be resurrected!

Rasmus Rønn Nielsen, The Dudes 23 January 2012, 10:58

The current implementation of the assistant manager have annoyed us for quite some time. Right now, the assistant manager puts in reserve players to your tactic if a player in the line up leaves your club (sale or contract expiry).

That's the only impact he has.

When we initially added him to the game we expected him to get a lot more uses over time. But now, 4-5 years have past, and we've always had something more important to work on. And considering our plans for the future (improved match engine/viewer, improved tactics, proper youth department, improved stadion editor, and national teams), we cannot see how we'll find time to show him some love anytime soon.

Hence, we've chosen to remove the assistant manager as a "staff type", and readd him as a feature every club has access to.

Today, existing assistant manager will get new jobs - either as coach or scout. Which one is totally random. The excess wages you've paid will be refunded.

Whether or not you want to keep your former assistant manager (in his new job) when his contract expires, is up to you.

Because everybody now has a assistant manager, we've exploited this to improve the navigation of "Clubhouse > The team" which a lot of people have been displeased with. The section "Team overview" (very badly named) and the "Assistant manager" will now be combined into one called "Assistant manager". The overall result is a much more intuitive menu that is easier to navigate.

Besides this, the removal of the assistant manager as a staff type, also yields to the following benefits:

  • All clubs will automatically get reserve players put into their tactics when a line up player leaves the club. When you think about it, this makes sense. It seems stupid that a club cannot manage to do this on their own just because they have no assistant manager. Who would play with 10 players if they had reserve players?
  • The game will be a little simpler overall. This makes it easier to comprehend and understand for you guys, and easier for us to maintain and develop. The latter is important, because it gives us more time to work on things that really matter.
  • It has been extremely annoying to have an incomplete feature in the game. This annoyance is now gone.

We hope you like the change :)
